Herbs & Spices is GI-TEC's student-operated restaurant, where Culinary Arts students gain hands-on experience in a fully functioning food service environment. Open during the school year, the restaurant gives students the opportunity to develop the skills needed for successful careers in the culinary and hospitality industries. Students Learn Every Aspect of Restaurant Operations

Students rotate through a variety of workstations and responsibilities, including:

  • Front-of-house customer service
  • Food preparation and cooking
  • Baking and pastry production
  • Pizza and salad bar operations
  • Dish room management
  • Pots and pans station
  • Inventory management
  • Bookkeeping and record keeping
  • Cleaning and sanitation procedures

School Store Favorites

Students prepare fresh food items daily for the GI-TEC School Store, including:

  • Fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies
  • Personal pizzas
  • Calzones
  • Seasonal baked goods and specialty items

Catering Opportunities

Students gain valuable event and catering experience throughout the year by providing food service for:

  • School functions
  • Staff meetings
  • Community events
  • Special celebrations

Events range from small gatherings of 10 guests to large-scale functions serving up to 800 guests.
