Accounting
The Accounting program prepares students for careers in manual and automated accounting. Topics covered include special journals, payroll systems, depreciation, accrued revenue and expenses, departmentalized accounting, and corporate accounting. Advanced topics include managerial accounting, cost accounting, tax accounting, auditing, and personal finance planning.
(Accounting is held at the GI-TEC Mt. Pleasant Campus).
GI-TEC Accounting and Business Management students visit the Great Lakes Loons’ home field, Dow Diamond, to learn about the Business of Baseball! From marketing and promotions to payroll and operations, students get an amazing behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run a successful baseball organization — and then top off the experience by cheering on the Loons at the game!
Accounting / ICCU Co-op
GI-TEC Accounting student Gavin Sander is making the most of his co-op placement at ICCU! By combining classroom learning with real-world experience, Gavin is building strong financial literacy skills that will serve him now and into the future. Welcome to the Accounting program! With 26 years of teaching under my belt, I am still just as passionate about helping students discover the exciting world of business. My own path started back in high school and college while working in the office of a local car dealership doing real-world bookkeeping, an experience that led me to earn my Business Education degree from Central Michigan University.
In my classroom and lab, I love proving to students that accounting is far from boring or isolated. Because I teach multiple levels in the same room, I focus on creating a comfortable, relaxed space where everyone feels supported. I work hard to help my students become independent problem-solvers who can jump in, figure things out, and feel confident in their abilities - skills that will serve them well long after high school.
