Construction Trades

The Building Trades program provides students with a solid foundation in residential building. Construction skills and techniques taught include:  framing, insulation, roofing, drywall hanging and finishing, deck building, window and door installation, and finish trim work. Students learn and apply these skills in the classroom and in lab situations.  Hand and power tool use, safety, teamwork, and employability skills are emphasized. The Building Trades program is valuable for students thinking of going into a construction field and for others wanting to learn valuable life skills. When students have completed this class, they should be prepared to join the workforce as laborers, apprentices, and possibly tradespeople: and/or be prepared to further their education at the university, college or trade school level.

(Construction Trades is held at the GI-TEC Mt. Pleasant Campus).
