Summer Camp
The GI-TEC Summer Camp (Mt. Pleasant Campus) is open to all current 6th–8th grade students in Gratiot and Isabella Counties – come explore hands-on career and technical experiences at our summer camp!

- Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

- What's included: - Snacks and water each day - A GI-TEC camp t-shirt - Small group sizes for a personalized experience - 15 students max per program (Automotive program limited to 12 students)

- AUTOMOTIVE: Close your eyes and let the smell of grease, oil, and rubber spark your imagination-then open them to find yourself behind the wheel of a high-demand career. This hands-on week covers the essentials of garage work, from checking fluid levels to mastering fuse and tire changes. Join us in the shop to discover how your passion for cars can turn into one of the most sought-after professions in Central Michigan.
- CULINARY ARTS: Step into the kitchen and master the art of feeding a family of four. From rolling out cinnamon rolls and artisan bread to layering a hearty lasagna, students will learn essential food safety and culinary techniques while preparing a complete meal to bring home and share. It's a delicious four days filled with new skills, fresh breadsticks, and—of course plenty of freshly baked cookies!
- CYBERSECURITY: Are you ready for an exciting summer adventure? Join us in Cybersecurity, where you'll learn how to protect computers and data like a real cyber detective! You'll also get hands-on experience programming drones and exploring cool computer applications. Don't miss out on the fun-discover the tech skills of the future and make new friends along the way!
- DIGITAL MEDIA: Become the voice of the GI-TEC Summer Camp by stepping into the roles of anchor, reporter, editor, and camera operator in our Digital Media program. Using professional broadcasting equipment, video editing tools, and graphic design software, you'll work as a team to produce a real-time newscast covering all the camp action. Bring your creativity to the studio and help us make headlines as you bring your stories to life!
- HEALTH SCIENCE CAREERS: Are you ready for the exciting world of healthcare? Explore the human body through interactive anatomy and physiology activities, learning how body systems function and work together. Learn basic hands-on clinical skills such as measuring vitals, splinting, wound care and more. Whether aspiring to be doctors, nurses, or simply curious about how the body works, this course offers a dynamic and inspiring introduction to the healthcare field.
- MACHINE TRADES / MECHANICAL DRAFTING: Learn to design, 3D print, and CNC machine your own personal project! Go from a digital idea to a finished project in just 4 days. No experience needed-just bring your creativity and get ready! By the end of the four days, you'll walk away with a custom masterpiece and the skills to build anything you can dream up.
- MARKETING: Step into the shoes of a retailer and marketer as you learn the operations of the School Store in our high-energy marketing program. From designing creative displays to managing real-world inventory, you'll learn the business secrets behind your favorite brands while building your own success story.
- SMALL ENGINES: Spend the week in the shop learning the basics of small engine maintenance and repair. You'll work with equipment like trimmers and mowers while practicing oil changes, replacing worn parts, and troubleshooting common issues. By the end, you'll be able to handle routine fixes and keep small engines running all summer.
ALMA CAMPUS PROGRAMS
- AGRISCIENCE: Get ready for a fun, hands-on summer adventure at Agriscience Camp! Spend time learning how to safely handle and care for animals, explore how food is grown, and even build your own mini hydroponic garden in a shoebox. Head outside for an exciting ecological scavenger hunt and discover the amazing world of agriculture. Who knows-you might find a future career you'll love!

- CRIMINAL JUSTICE/ FIREFIGHTING: Step into the shoes of first responders for a hands-on, action-packed week of public safety training. Students will learn essential fire safety techniques, operate fire hoses for fire suppression, and learn to identify clues through crime scene investigation. Under the guidance of local professionals, students will also engage in safe handcuffing techniques and gain practical knowledge to become confident, safe, and proactive community members.

- PRE ENGINEERING: Do you want to get started in mechanical design, manufacturing, or robotics? Come join us in Pre-Engineering/Mechatronics for hands-on learning, equipment demonstrations, and bring home a project you make yourself! We'll work with Solidworks CAD software, 3D-print our designs, learn about sensors and programming, and assemble robot kits to compete in challenges. Combine your creativity with in-demand technical skills!
- WELDING: Welding Summer Camp introduces students to the basics of welding and how it is used to build and repair metal structures. Students will learn what welding is, explore essential shop safety practices, and observe how Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG welding) works. Through demonstrations and guided practice, students will gain hands-on experience using welding equipment in a safe environment. The camp concludes with students completing a small welding project they can take home.
