Educational Careers

Would you like to work with children, be creative, communicate effectively, work with the public and give back to your district and community? Well, that's what you will be doing when you take Educational Careers. Students receive six weeks of classroom instruction to learn the beginning teaching skills and methodology. Once they have completed and passed their test, they will be placed in a classroom 3 - 4 days a week in their home school district with a mentor teacher. They will gain classroom experience first by observing, then advancing to actual lesson development and delivery. Students also have an opportunity to participate in the Educational Career Leadership Club.

(Educational Careers is held at the GI-TEC Mt. Pleasant Campus).

Teacher Cadet at Vowles Elem

GI-TEC Educational Careers student Taylor Tompson is making meaningful connections as a teacher cadet in a kindergarten classroom at Vowles Elementary! Students in the Educational Careers program are placed in classrooms at different schools and grade levels based on the careers they’re interested in pursuing. By working directly with students and staff, they gain real-world experience, build meaningful relationships, and explore what a future in education might look like.

Teacher Cadet at McGuire Elem

GI-TEC Educational Careers student Amelia Russell is preparing for a future in education through hands-on experience in a 3rd grade classroom at McGuire Elementary! As a junior in high school, Amelia is gaining valuable insight as a teaching cadet—observing, assisting, and actively participating in the classroom. This real-world experience gives her the opportunity to explore the profession, build confidence, and start planning the next steps in her journey toward becoming an educator. Learning by doing today, leading classrooms tomorrow!

Interactive Lesson Boards

GI-TEC Educational Careers students designed and created interactive teaching boards to help explain classroom concepts through a visual, hands-on approach. These creative tools allow younger students to physically move through and interact with the concepts, making learning more engaging and memorable.

The teaching boards were proudly displayed at the GI-TEC Open House, giving visitors a chance to see the creativity and instructional skills of our future educators. After the event, students take their boards into classrooms to use with the students they work with during their teaching cadet experiences—bringing their ideas to life in real learning environments.
